Default Mold in the Air Vents??

A couple months ago, my car was stuck in the middle of a moderate flood. The water was high enough to come into the door sills, but fortunatly didnt cause any damage other than water in the footwells, and effectivly turning the entire interior into a sauna.

I stripped down the interior that day (it would never dry on its own) and tried my best to get all the moisture out of the vehicle. Regardless of my efforts, ever since then, there has been a distinct moldy smell inside my vehicle.

The smell seems to get much worse every time that air is pushed through my defroster vents. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? I would like to start putting my interior back together, but I am not going to until i can get the mold problem taken care of. Any ideas are appriciated.

Fabreeze. Hose the carpet down with it. It works wonders.

the seats and carpet are fabreeze fresh. i am talking about trying to get in the actual air vents and trying to get rid of whatever is creating the moldy smell.

i think an Ozone generator would be your best bet. i think you should be able to get them at most tool rental places.

There is lots of foam and plastic in an air duct system. The water has probably created mold growth on one of these components. You will probably have to remove the dash and disassemble the system, and remove the mold. The ozone idea might work too. It also wouldn't take as long but it might cost more money.

BTW: I think there is more sound deadening material and padding between the dash and firewall.

NAPA autoparts is selling a spray to clean evaporators and heater cores. You just spray it in the air inlet you know,in the upper part of your hood... I' m pretty sure your are caught with a bad case of fungus Just make sure that your heater is how and spray!

its funny that you mentioned the padding between dash and firewall, cause when i was down there eariler, i pulled back the padding and the foam behind it was still wet.. i bet its one hell of a pain in the *** to take out that padding.

not if you take the dash out and that can be a pain but not horrible
how nice a car is this if its worth it you can get oem carpets for like 270 from acurecarland or majestic honda. i'd get one of those id take out the dash replace the mat behind the dash and why everythings out dry scrub dry the car and also try and get inside the dash vents to scrub id do it if it where my car its up to you
