misfiring maybe? help?
i recently bought a 94 gsr, i dont know much about working on cars but i can do simple things, im learning.
it had a skunk2 manifold on it and as many of you might know, makes a whisling sound when getting on the gas. After researching, people said it was the gasket between the IM and the TB. I made a trip down to autozone and bought some liquid gasket stuff. Got home took the manifold off applied the sealer. I thought it went well.. but i turned on the car (said it seals instantly) and the idle was at about 300-600 jumping and sounding like it was going to die, the car also felt like it was going to die after about 30% throttle. After investigating i figured i plugged my sensors with the liquid gasket stuff, so i took the liquid gasket off as best as i could, said screw it and just used the paper gasket. I turned the car on, voila the jumpy idle is gone and the idle is good.
My friend came over to check out my car, i had it running and he was behind it at idle, it has a stock exhaust, but there is a leak somewhere in it (i noticed because after leaving my car on when it was having idle problems there was a big black spot on the ground, its never left a black spot before though) i pointed it out to him and he said my car was misfiring? I know what misfiring is, but i dont know how to point it out. I thought a CEL was supposed to come on if it misfired? it goes brrrrrpopbrrrrrrrrrrrpop from the exhaust. I never noticed this before, could i have screwed something up with the throttle body?
Could it be my spark plugs?
any help would be GREATLY appreciated

u prob clogged the map sensor hole.. its a tiny hole in the back of the throttle body that leads to that black sensor on top of the TB . if u got that silicone in the lil hole it will idle bad and misfire and act up.. clear out all of that silicone from every lil hole on the throttle body and u might even have to take the map off to see if its clogged.. and if u made your own paper gasket it has to match the OEM one or else that may block stuff too.. best to go to dealer and but the 3$ gasket
