Default metal chip detector in oil?

found this interesting note

"Some engines have metal chip detectors that work because under normal conditions the engine oil is not a conductor. When metal debris from a progressive bearing failure gets across the detector it triggers a warning hopefully in time to get the engine shut down before catastrophic failure"

wonder if it can be used with Neptune/hondata inputs? that would save a lot of engines I bet.

Could probably set it up to be an input, might have to do some configuring first. It would probably have to be a 0-4.7V output to the board, then you could monitor the sensor. I wonder what voltage the sensor operates at the point of measuring the conductivity of the oil, I imagine it would probably be higher than 12V unless the probes are really close together. Either way very interesting. You would also need to know the conductivity characteristics of the oil as it breaks down from use so you aren't thrown off, as I'm sure the cars running the sensors have this data built into the ECU.

just wire it up as a main 12V supply. When it trips it shuts off all power to your ECU and lights up a light bulb. You can call it the bulb of death,

Alot of those units are digital output
I found one they use in german cars that eliminates dipstick

It checks oil level oil temp and oil content...
