Default melted piston w/nitrous!!!!!!!!

I have a question for you guys, It is a NON-HONDA related question though.
My buddy has a 94 Celica and This past fall I installed a Zex nitrous kit on the car and about 2 months later he lost the #1 cylinder. Today we pulled the head off and the #1 piston had melted and the rings were coming up over what was left of the piston. What could have caused this severe lean condition on only this cylinder? The rest of the cylinders were burning perfectly and the pistons and combustion chambers were indicating a rich burn condition. Could the #1 injector possible failed or what?

Any ways heres the kicker guys. Can we pop that piston out and replace it along with a new set of rings for that cylinder and then hope the car runs well enough to sell it? The cylinder seems to have some scores in it and I think that If we just honed it out and slapped a new piston and rings in it would last for a little while. It may not have the greatest compression but would it run alright????

By the way when he sells his Celica he would be joining the HONDA FAMILY when he buys his Integra.

Please help us out here. You would be helping out a Future Honda-Techer

Thanks in advance
Jesse

Check which way the fuel flows on the rail. I'm not too sure about the Celica's setup, but if #1 is closest to the regulator side of the rail, then #1 gets the hottest. This is why we put EGT senders in the #1 exhaust runner.

Check the other plugs, pistons and rings to see if they were close to to condition of #1. If not, then you mot likely had a failed #1 injector. This is fairly common.

Good luck.

I've only seen or heard about a hand full of burned pistons but all of them have been a single piston failure. I would think this is simply how a failure occurs with NOX.

One cylinder will have exactly the conditions needed for a failure. It's extremely hard to get each cylinder perfectly balanced. There are just too many variables. This is what makes the professional engine builders so good. They have mastered techniques to balance the power output of each cylinder.

Ok as far as the position of the #1 cyl. Is farthest away from the NO2 injection point it is the last stop on the fuel rail also. I'm sure that the injector has failed because the other adjacent cylinder looks absolutely fine.

Now, will the new piston and ring combo work or what????????
