LSD: How does it work or where to find info
Lo ppl,
I am looking for info on LSD's. I have used the search and only found topics concerning what brand to get or that they are for sale. What I am looking for is how it works and why its so great to have them. Never driven a LSD equipt car before so there is only theory for me.
Thx in advance.
Arthur

I have read and understood it... Am I correct to say that Spoon Sports has a Torsen LSD with a ratio of 1:5 ?

At Spoon, we employ a 1.5-way, mechanical-type of LSD

Think this won't fit on my current and next setup
Current setup is standard b16a1+Y1
Next setup will be Spoon B16B+ Spoon LSD + Y1

What is the difference between a Quaife and Spoon Sports LSD ?
Cause its "nice" doesn't cut it for me.

1 Way means locking during acceleration only. 2 way = locking during acceleration and deceleration. 1.5 way = lock during acceleration and a little bit during deceleration...
Clutch type LSDs are usually more agressive. For street use I recommend Torsen type LSDs like ITR and Quaife.
BTW. If you have real "tech" questions, ask them in the ITR forum. You'll get an answer much quicker......

Get the Sp00n diff. I had a Kaaz LSD(clutch type 1.5 way) and now i have a Quaife and the Kaaz was WAY better for auto-x/track use, but for the street, the Quaife is nice and quiet, also, the Quaife is good because you can use regular tranny fluid. Dont get me wrong, the Quaife is a great piece, but the car felt SOOO much more balanced with the Kaaz.
I dont see how you can say that. I own a Quaife equiped GSR and Ive driven/riden in a KAAZ equiped GSR. The KAAZ made the car feel like a bulldozer in the parkinglot. Every tight corner the inside wheel was locked at the same ratio as the outside wheel and would spin way more than it should. Im sure at higher speeds the Kaaz (clutch type) would be fine. But it just felt like it was ripping chit apart. My Quaife is so smooth and perfect - not to mention quieter.
Yeah, like i said, the Quaife is better for street, but for track and Auto-x, i liked the Kaaz better. They are both great diffs, and each has its benefits and drawbacks, i was just stating my personal experience with the 2 differentials. The Kaaz is definately not the best choice for street use. I do like the Quaife since i use my car as a daily driver too, but if i were building a track only car, i would put the Kaaz thats in my garage in in a second.
Thx for the great answers...
Looks like I need some keys of a LSD equiped car, any volunteers
No really... I think I am going to contact some ppl to hitch a ride to listen, cause the noise wasn't mentioned anywhere (not that's a prob)...
