Default LSD with Axle issues

I had a JDM Y1 cable with factory LSD in it. My joints kept on breaking in shreads every other month or so every time i would turn. Left or right. I couldn't pin point witch was the weekest spot (left or right) but the point is, that it kept poping my axles.

I got fed up and got me a good buy on my friend's USDM S1 teg tranny. After i swapped trannies, it never gave me this problem again.

I do miss my LSD for weekend drags. Is there any way to repair this? Is it common?
I have it sitting in my back yard screaming at me every time i work on my car

if i didn't kow any better the lsd sounds messed up. sounds like its acting more like a solid diff then an lsd. so they both turn at the same time. And they never give. Which causes the axles to break

Exactly! Thats the only thing that would make sence. Would this be fixable or would getting a new LSD is the best alternative?

Did the person who had this tranny before maybe weld the diff and sell it as an LSD?

Nope! No bar going across.
When i spin one wheel with my hand, the other wheel spins in the same direction. (car was jacked up ofcourse)

Here's a closer look......

Notice that regular looking gray philips screw on the right of the diff, next to the gears. Is that OEM? I don't think so.
I bought this used and there was silicone around the case indicating that someone was in it before.

all i can say is that it does not look like a factory stock LSD, since you have swaped the g/box out, why not strip it down and find out which differential it is - welded or not, and if possible - rebuild it...

sorry i cant be of my assistance, like telling you which diff it is...

so how will a factory LSD act when turning one wheel? I know a welded diff would obviousely spin both in the same direction, all the time. My tranny is suposedly lsd equipped (I haven't dropped it in yet, so I don't know by driving), there's no bar running through it, and when I spin one side, the other goes the opposite direction.

did yours also have the ring gear double as the lid for the LSD itself?

That is definatly not a factory Y1 LSD. The first tip off is that its using a factory ring gear. Here are some pics of a factory unit. Notice the 15 bolts securing the ring gear.

hey I just saw your pics well I think that the problem could be with the axles themselves. Now was there any play with the axle. What about the length, or how many splines are on the axle shaft. It could be that you went in and skip every other spline on the diff. Also what about the diameter of the alxes they could have been different so that there was enough play that when you took turns and the diff was doing its job and made on wheel spin faster than the other it would start to give way. So it would depend on which you took more turns of to which one would break first. Well I hope I help some what. good luck

Thanks for the replies.
