LS/VTEC problem, vtec stops working ONLY when im racing or flooring it???? code 22
This is the weirdest problem ive had so far with my new LS/Vtec conversion--- The VTEC engages fine when its supposed to, and stays on until I let off, and I know this cause I hooked up a test light ot the VTEC solenoid wire and left it in my car, cause I thought it was acting weird. The light comes on when it should, but when flooring it pretty hard one time the check engine ligth came on and the test light turned off at the same time, which = no more VTEC!! It was code 22- VTEC Pressure Switch, which is the crazy thing since I have the vtec p.s. wire coming out of the ECU (D4 i think) grounded right to the frame, I know its a good ground too. Once I turn the car off the CEL goes away and it works fine again, until I floor it. It does this every time I floor it "fairly" hard, and the vtec doesnt work again til I turn off the car and turn it back on???
Isnt this crazy, I know other people have the vtec pressure switch grounded too, I just want to know if this has ever happened to anyone else and how they fixed it. If I had a connector plug that went to the vtec p.s. on the engine I would hook it up but I dont. This is pissing me off cause I need to get my car tuned but I cant with this problem
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I think I fixed it, I just put a bigger ground wire from the ECU. I floored it once or twice and VTEC stayed on like it should, but that was only through 1st and 2nd-- I would still like to know if this has happened to anyone else, cause it might not be fixed yet??
DO YOU HAVE THE ACTUALL LS VTEC ECU? I HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM TOO. I GOT BIGGER GAUGE WIRING (6 GAUGE) AND THE LS VTEC ECU. AND I WAS RUNNING FINE AFTER THAT.
theres no such thing as an ls/vtec ecu, but yes I do have a vtec ecu. So you had the same problem though, it worked sometimes, but stopped working after you floored it??
I had this exact same problem, and it was pissing me off. I had the VTPS wire coming from D something (I think it is D4 or D6 but just search this sight, and you can find the exact pin location), and had it grounded to the chassis, and the VTEC would cut out and the CEL would come on for 22. What you have to do is take the VTPS wire out of the D bank, and splice it into the VTEC power wire which is on the A bank (A3 I think, but again, find the pinout diagram on this sight to make sure). I got some wire tap connectors from radioshack and tapped the VTPS wire from the D bank into the VTEC solenoid power wire coming from the A bank, and that fixed the problem, and VTEC works fine every time all the way to redline. I hope this makes sense, but it for sure works.

I just grounded it with a bigger wire and it works fine now, I dont understand how your way would work though, cause the VTPS just grounds out the connection to let the solenoid open, but if there isnt enough oil pressure vtec wont work. Thats why it has to either be hooked up all the time, or grounded. But if it works it works I guess

Yeah, that is why it took so long for me to figure out, because I thought you just had to ground that connection, but when I finally spliced the VTPS wire into the Solenoid wire it worked. It didn't make any sense, but since it works, I'm not complaining.
