Default LS vtec leak down results

I have a rebuilt ls v that smokes. 130 miles since rebuild and still smoking. I did a leakage test and these are my results:
Cylinder 1: 10%
cylinder 2: 17%
cylinder 3: 12%
cylinder 4: 9%

Keep in mind the motor is rebuilt new rings etc.... Are these good numbers since it's still not fully broken into?.

That's a large variance and 17% isnt good. What all was done when it was "rebuilt"? Cylinders honed?

Machine shop rebuilt the motor, honed the cylinders, installed néw rings and bearings, pressure tested head, and valve seals were replaced.

Was it too sooN to do a leak down test or should I run the motor the full 500 miles and allow to fully break in and try the test again??

I've leakdown tested motors that hadn't even run yet and been under 7% on all cylinders. Definitely something up.

Are you positive the leak down was done correctly? If so, it's time to take it back to the shop...

Yeah I'm positive I did it right, I actually did the test twice. I did it wit the valve cover off and I heard air leaking through the crank case. So it seems the rings maybe be the culprit?? Can I jus rehone and install new rings??

You dont necessarily need to rehone it....or buy new rings for that matter. Were the rings installed at the proper 120* intervals w/ the oil rings at 30* (or whatever proper spec is)?
