Default LS/vtec

How much can I expect to spend (with or without labour) to add everything I need to my LS to give it a VTEC head? I know I have the option of GSR head or b16 head but thats about all I know...

thanx alot

LS bottom end (crank, etc.), complete B16/B18 head from Si/GSR/ITR, VTEC wiring harness and solenoids, pistons of your choice, depending on what you wanna do (Nitrous, Turbo, NA, etc), and a good machine shop to drill your extra hole in the head for oil. As a general guide, B16A pistons are relatively low compression, while B18C5 ITR pistons are pretty high compression. It'll prolly run you around 800-1000 for all the parts, 1200-1500 total including building the motor itself.

Actually the B16 would yield a higher compression ratio I think.

Your best option is to just buy a 1st gen b16 long block. This way you are sure of what you are getting. Also, you'll have b16 pistons, oil squirters, and the tranny (although it's a cable one-you can get the conversion kit).

b16 pistons in the b18 block will give you around 12.1:1 c/r , and with ITR youll have about a 11.1:1 so i would go with ITR for driveability, but thats just me..
