ok i got a b18 and im building it and it had some good miles on it but the crank looks great no marks or anything. my ?? is do i have to get it balance or polished.

My build

b18a block
81mm honed still in spec
srp pistons 10:5:1 .074 head gasket makes it 9:5:1
eagle rods
acl baerings
crank????

b18 head non v-tec
5 angle valve job
dh-racing springs and retainer
stock cams for now

tuned on crome by me
1000cc injectors
walbro 255
e85

itr tranny 4.7 final drive

I doubt it will have to be balanced. You can balance the complete rotating assembly if you want to get crazy, however I have seen tons of motors last a very long time without doing so.

Concerning the valvetrain you are running, you may want to consider selling it & buying something with a better reputation.

Concerning crome, I would look into neptune or ectune

whats wrong with dh-racing there the only company that will stand behind there $hit for life supertech wont cuz steel and titanum dont got together ti will eat the steel spring and crome i have tuned alot of cars on it and i like it. but thanks for your help and im only going for 500whp

I would balance it because I believe my unbalanced assembly is what killed my oil pump.

Its not a harmonic balancer its a harmonic damper because these are internaly balanced, it was a fluidampr thats why I'm leaning torward the crank not being rebalanced

ya but they come from the factory balanced and i would think the only time it would need to be rebalanced is if you have to get the crank turned

I would rebalance the assembly especially if you plan on running above normal redline, I have talked to alot of shops about my oil pump failure and they all say they balance there assemblies and told me to balance mine.
