Default Lowered? Issues with rear seatbelts locking?

From the day I bought my car a few months ago the rear seatbelts were locked and unusable.

Yesterday, while glancing over my Helms I ran across the rear seatbelt section, it says that the mechanism needs to be mounted at a certain angle (relative to the Earth I would assume, functioning with gravity) or it will be locked.

Sooo, I head out to the car late last night (to avoid the heat) and begin removing trim. I finally get the seatbelt mechanism out and in to my hands. By tilting it a certain angle it does in fact work. HOWEVER, there is no way I can mount it at such an angle, there is only one way to bolt it in.

Therefore, I am completely out of luck, for some reason I cannot attain the specified angle when the unit is bolted in. I'm guessing it may be due to my car's "aggressive" stance? The car is lowered so that the front is slighty lower than the rear, possibly ruining the geometry in question.

Does anyone else suffer from this same problem? Am I totally off in my guess of the cause?

Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to someday hold people in my rear seats but obviously cannot without seatbelts.

well unless your car is soo raked like old skool muscles cars were it should not be a problem. what model car do you have? most honda belts have a pendulum style belt. so if the belt works out of the car but ni when installed, make sure they are mounted correctly and nothing is bent

EG, mounted correctly as well, only one way to do so. The previous owner just told me he got the belts out of a wrecked car...

well if they came out of a wrecked car the mechanism inside are probably screwed. I work at a body shop and you never install used seatbelts. sorry but you probably have to get new ones

Especially from a wrecked car, I would think! Honda has a lifetime warranty on seatbelts. If the problem is not due to your lowering, it might cover replacement. Whoever replaced them the first time should have tried the warranty instead of the junkyard!

I don't know, I've never had to pursue such a thing. But there's a page of my owner's manual about warranties, and it mentions the lifetime warranty on seat belts. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but it can't hurt to ask, right?
