low oil......help!
i was about due for an oil change.......
n e way, i started having problems with my vtec....
it wasnt engaging properly....and when it did it woudl keep shutting off and commign back on
so i though i shoudl check my oil (since vtec runs off oil pressure)
and it was EMPTY!!!
well anyway....when my vtec woudl go on and off b4....id be liek wtf....
so it try it again.....id did the same ****.....then one time the check engine light came on =/
but we i restarted the car it was gone
and that happened again
so i said *** it, and stopped trying to see if my vtec woudl work
that was when i checked my oil
i think i know where its leaking from....i believe its the vtec stoenoid
(left side of the head, commming out of the vale cover)
anyway......what damage could i have done? what precautions should i take?
its a b16a2 btw........
oh..and i have a 'mint' b16a2 for sale too! (j/k)
but pls help!! im a computer guy and i know a bit about engines....but obviously not enough....
if your gonna post "your stupid man" or "say goodbye to your engine" ......well thanks. i already knwo that. id prefer advice so i can learn more

well if it runs ok then you may be alright.check your oil for metal flakes and when it was empty of oil did you hear any metal on metal contact,like bearings?..good luck dood
ill check the oil when i change it tommorow

i had to put in about 2L to get it back to a safe level....
how many L's does it take from empty? so i can know how little i had

-cam shaft wear

^ thats where the vtec solenoid is right? i heard its a common spot for oil to leak on honda's and its not hard to change.

wow, u honda-tech ppl are much nicer than ppl on other boards, i was expecting a lot of ppl to just flame me in this thread.
another thing...while i have someones attention....
im running a test pipe....with an apex-i n1 can
now my car has a LOT of back fire
when i let off the throttle at anywhere from 3k and up it farts pretty loud
now i thought it jsut did this becuase of my exhaust
but i heard that it actully could be somthing to do with my timing/valves
ideas?

the reasons for backfiring are: ignition timing incorrect/weak spark/dis cap'rotor/fuel filter/injectors/vacum leaks/valve clearances incorrectly set or valves sticking...start with whats ez for you to fix and see if it works..good luck
