Default lost hose, breather filter?

i got a quick question i keep getting mixed reviews on these filters.

I know these are only for forced induction but i lost the hose that goes from my cold air intake into the valve cover.

I Can't find it so i just bought a breather filter instead of driving around with no hose or filter and getting **** in their.

can this do any harm to an engine or lose horsepower? don't see how it can mess anything up should i just leave it?

I take it you got one of those little filters which looks like a mini air intake filter? Should be fine. Just make sure its securely attached.
