Lost!! Help Plz!! Ecu Chipping Info!!
Hi, I have a 1997 JDM Integra SIR-G, not the Type R, the SIR-G is a B18C1 (JDM B18C1 not USDM) not B18C5 and I have a CAI and a Full cat back exhaust, that's about it. I am gonna buy a chipped ECU but I am clueless with this while I was searching
I heard Hondata was the best so I searched but then I hear about s100 and s200 and all this, I don't know about all that
I just want a chipped ECU that will give me a high REV Limit without blowing my engine and a slightly lower V-Tec engagement point and substantial HP gains and also room for tuning out more power when I add additional parts as well, so please H-T, help!!!!! Also when yu explain to me about this stuff please tell me all the parts needed and where to get them, remember I can't post in the Classified's yet and I searched thru the archives for hours, I'm still clueless
Thanks.

First off vtec is spelled vtec, and get used to it or youre gonna get flammed on here so much, I'd also suggest learning more about your car and cars in general before modding yours. I saw you're post about the breather filters and no offense but that is prob the most self explanitory and straight forward thing you could possibly do, and if you don't understand that yet, then everything else is gonna be way over yoru head.
I'm gonna take a shot at explaining ECU's to you though, Hondata is not just a chipped ECU, chipped ECUs are ROMs(read only memory) ecu's that have been programmed w/ a more aggressive program, these are better then nothing but aren't tailored specifically to your car so the gains you see are minimal compared to a standalone unit like hondata. Before I get ahead of myself Standalone, means its meant to work on its own, hondata is a stretch of the term because it actually runs off of your stock ECU but it works similarly to other standalone units so thats the category it falls into, the S100 and S200 units are just different models, try searching for hondata on google and read about it on their website. Standalone units need to be programmed by a professional and to make serious gains, require dyno time, all which costs extra, beyond the unit itself. The last real ECU mod is piggy back computers like the Apex'i VAFC which in my opinion is not worth the money so I won't bother to get into it.
I definitly don't think you're ready to invest in a hondata unit and all its extra costs, yet, search the internet some more, read more posts and magazines, and definitly check out http://www.howthingswork.com and learn the basics of engine mechanics, its kinda sad but if you post "stupid" questions on here, you're gonna get made fun of, flat out, so educate yourself, if you have quesitons private message me or instant message me on aim: hondavtecfanatic.

"chipping" an ECU on a NA car will almost never net you substantial HP gains, regardless of the bolt-ons. You would need to go FI to see substantial HP gains, but only after proper tuning. I recommend spending a few hours at http://www.pgmfi.org. There you will find freeware ROM editors that will allow you to do 90% of what Hondata does, along with the knowledge to use the available information properly.
