Default LMA Question

Do lma's ever wear out or weaken? If so, how do you know when its time to change them? Increased valvetrain noise? Its not something that many people talk about so i'm just wondering if anyone is encountering any problems with LMA longevity with aftermarket cams?

Nobody that I have heard of is experiencing LMA failure-per se. Earl posted a topic that suggested that really big cams with bigger base circles were causing cams to break, due to the LMA's bottoming out.

depends on what motor your running with what cams...

i have a first gen b16 from an automatic and put ctr valve springs retainers and cams in it and now i have to replace the LMA with itr ones, mine are ticking very badley

itr LMA can handle most aftermarket cams i have never heard of itr LMA failing or wearing out

Are you sure the ticking is coming from the LMA's? I always thought b16/gsr lma's could handle the ITR cams.

yes it has to be the lma, i adjusted the valves twice to be sure, and the head is from a 91 auto b16 im sure the lma are weak

when i installed the springs and retainers it only had single valve springs on the exhaust and intake side

I have sorta the same problem, I have a light tick when I upgraded from b16 cams to ITR cams in my b16 head, did 3 valve adjustments cause I thought it was the valves. Turns out the LMA's are just old... no harm no foul though.

to those that had problems, HOW old were the LMA's ? My B16 has 50,000 miles of stock cams on it and I'm about to upgrade to sk2 stage II's......

Aaron, with bigger cams you should upgrade your LMA's to Type-R's.

we have never had a prob w/ type r LMA. we run the jun type 3, had over 150 runs on the track, we have taken the motor to 10k rpm, the prob w/ big cams is that you cannot hit the rev limit. the LMA will work fine on big cams, if you bounce off the rev limit, it causes the valve to float then the LMA bottoms out breaking the cam leaveing horizontal marks on the rocker arms. REMEMBER!! DO NOT HIT THE REV LIMIT ON BIG CAMS

anyone have some for sale? I've been quoted 235 for them, which sounds good but in my current state of "broke" anyone that has some for sale, it would be greatly appreciated.

just press down on the vtec lobe's rocker arm thing. It should move smoothly and spring back freely. If it sticks or isnt smooth you should replace it/them
