Learning how to work on trannys
I noticed that my local junkyard is selling a tranny for a d series engine for 350 bucks. I'm thinking about picking it up so i can learn about trannys and fool around with gears and stuff. Are there any websites or books that contain good tranny info?

Well, thats exactly how I learned the physics of transmissions..
I got my hands on a junkyard tranny, or should I say, a tranny headed for the scrap yard and decided to rip it apart and see how it worked.. a guide/manual is a good source for gear/synchro/sleeve placement but not needed to actually see how it operates..
take your time with it and don't tear it apart w/o realizing the proper way/order the parts go in.. I wouldn't spend $350 for it either, for that price you could prolly find a junk car and experiment with a motor along with the transmission..

Find a SOHC tranny that has been exploded and get it for free!
How I learned.........
I exploded 2 of my own, plus have 3 others sitting around in PIECES!
