Default k&n filter cleaning/drying

i did a search on this, but i didn't find a definite answer.

when you clean your k&n filter, are you supposed to let it dry after you oil it? the instructions aren't clear. they make it seem like you can oil it and then just put it on. i normally wait a couple of hours after i oil it, but i wasn't sure if i really need to.

i don't get what you mean...

i'm just asking how long you have to wait for the filter to dry after applying the oil.

I'd assume that if the directions don't specify a wait time, it should be okay, but who knows...

I toss mine on the end of my shopvac hose and suck all the air out of it. Let it sit like 5 minutes then oil it up.

What hes asking is AFTER you oil the filter, do you have to let it set for a while. Not before he oils it.

Nope. I would run the car right after I oiled it. Nothing changes from 2 seconds to 2 hours after you oil it.

What are you guys talking about you cant just oil the **** and put it on your car

After oiling mine it took about 18-20 hours for it to dry 100%, if not the red oil is just going to get all over your car.

To original poster let it dry about a day for best results.

So what are you saying, the oil evaporated?

If anything, some of it may run off. Letting it "dry" is not really gonna happen - it IS oil, not water. And it won't (shouldn't) dry 100%, the tackiness of the oil is what helps the element catch particles.

I do however agree about the mess - I let mine sit overnight to allow any excess to drain/run off. That red oil looks like a tampon exploded!

Who said anything about evaporating

I said it took that long to dry, aka meaning i could pick it up without the oil drippin off the filter, After 10 hours of sittign i went to check on it to see it was still very moist and when picked up it dripped.

Does that make sense to you?

Yes, that's what I meant by drain/run off. Saying "dry" just made me think about evaporation - I think it's a poor choice of words. It really needs to be moist to work ya know?

I got that crap all over my clothes/hands the first time I cleaned mine. Looked like I had just bludgined my dog to death with a ratchet or something!

"I'm sorry honey, what did you say? My ears are still ringing from exhaustion after killing the mailman with a chainsaw. Did you know that he will fit in his own bag? Tiny, tiny pieces..."
