dude, i did a routine oil change to my car and i think one of my lines broke and killed the oil supply. after driving it for a day, i come home and smell hella smoke comign from the engine. i go to take a look, and i see my axles alternator and a buncha other parts drenched in oil. and i take out the dip stick and its bone dry
what am i supposed to do now?

add oil and pray that bastard didnt seize up.
Might as well change the filter again, or use brake cleaner...
clean everything off and find out where the oil is coming from once youve filled it back up.

Hey John.
If you still have the old filter check to see if it still has a gasket on it. If it doesnt then you just doubled up on gaskets and the oil just leaked out.
Id probably fill it back up with oil crank it a couple times (make sure you disable the car from firing) then drain the oil (not required but why not) drain the oil then refill it and run a comp check. If it was still running ok before you shut it off more than likely the damage is minimal.
Oh yeah and change the filter.

Was your oil light on? if it was and you kept driving then I would be worried. What they said earlier about the oil filter gasket sounds to be the most logical problem. You should always check that the old filter gasket has been removed when you remove the oil filter. Also if the drain plug washer/gasket isn't in good shape it will cause leaks. What I would do in this situation would be: Fill the engine up to the proper level with oil, start the engine and check for leaks, do what you have to do to stop the leak. If your oil warning light is operational and never came on while you were driving then don't worry about if you damaged anything, fix the leak and be happy you diddn't catch your car on fire. Next time you change your oil start the car and CHECK FOR LEAKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! peace~

See I was thinking if he did even the slightest damage to fill drain and refill to get out any particles that might not have drained into the filter.

alright ima try to do that tommorrow, cuz i got my wizdom teeth taken out today and im a little drugged up
so what ima try to do tommorrow is,
check the oil filter gasket.
if all good, fill it up with oil then check for leaks?
is there any other possibilities of the cause of this problem?
and i did not check to see if the oil light was on

Yeah there could be other problems but concentrate on the high percentage/cheapest fix first.
So do you look like a chipmunk now?

Re: (RangerDan)
hah, thanks Dan, i'm bad at detail. Yeah like he said oil filter first because if it sprayed everywhere it prob had some pressure behind it and that isnt from the drain plug, but check that too. I had an oil filter gasket leak on me at work once. it got pinched somehow and when I started the car after about 5 seconds I had spray EVERYWHERE. Luckily it was my uncles car and I didnt get in trouble lol.

Exactly this same thing happened to me once and all my oil ran out. Luckily i didnt drive on my motor like this. Hopefully everything is alright internally.

if it did seize up, what exactly was the damage done due to this? is the engine salvageable or fixable or would you be better off buying a new motor?

Re: im a retard, ran car without oil, what now? (tofu9000)
if it's not the double gausket, then it's most likely your oil filter. If you happend to use one of those "old school " oil filter wrench to tighten your filter ,you most likely pinched a small hole or traked the filter. I did the samething when i changed my oil, but for some reason I felt the wrench move a little more , when i turned on the car oil sprayed everywhere. the hole was so small too( actual size ---> "~" )

Not to hijack the thread but I am new to the import motors and was wondering do civics come standerd with D series in north america or can you get a B series in a civic. A lot of you guy's have B series engines and was wondering if that is aftermarket. Here in Canada I have never seen a civic come with a B series. Also is B series engines made in north america or are the from Japan? I know I am a newbie. Please help

find out why there is oil over everything. Happened to me already oil pressure gauge solenoid busted out and oil went everywhere. Clean up the oil put new oil in and run the car. If it knocks its killed.

The oil seal on the oil filter probably fell off w/o you realizing it. Check that area.. shouldn't be a big problem as long as you didn't drive it for a while.
