no oil in filter
can anyone help me, i have a 1990 honda accord i have noticed that when changing my oil there is no oil in the filter. the car is running great. what is causing this and i do change my oil regularly with synthetic oil.

the filter doesn't look dry, it looks like some oil has been in the filter, i have 230k miles on my car and it still runs great and the oil pressure is good.

If you aren't sure about what a better filter is, just buy them from the dealer.
Or, you can buy them online for ~ $4.50 each (or $5.50 after shipping and drain plug washers). OK, so you're adding $2.50 to $3 per oil change, but what you get is better peace of mind.
And kuddos for changing the oil yourself in the first place.

when i was back at tech school, we cut a bunch of filters in half to check them out and Frams had the least filtering agents of all of them. I dont know much about their "higher end filters" from fram but by the time you pay the bigger price for it, you probably could have gotten an oem or more reputable filter ... just my .02

You can find the links online.
Even their best is not so great. I've been a long time fram user and eventually swapped out for other types, bosch, K&N and Mobil.
The mobil is far better than a fram.

Yeh the Mobil is $10 after tax, but hands down it really is a good filter.

Hey,
I have a 2000 Civic that I bought a few months ago. When I bought it, I checked the oil level and it was dead on. The last oil changed had been done at a dealer with Honda oil filter.
I went to change the oil today and when I removed the oil filter, it was completely dry. As in I don't think this oil filter has ever seen a drop of oil. I even stuck a rolled up piece of paper towel inside of it and came out dry. Same thing when I stuck my little finger inside where the filter screws into the block.
I haven't had the oil light or "check engine" light on or anything.
The car has been working fine, except that I'm pretty sure that the VTEC system wasn't working (it's an EX Civic, 1.6 VTEC).
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Less than a year, actually, in the Canada plant.
I've had the chance to cut open brand new filters for comparision, the frams with the hand grip on them are way below the quality of the Honda filter; glued together cardboard with a flimsy flap for a drainback prevention valve.

I swear the filter was completely dry to the touch when I removed it.
The car had been sitting for the about 48 hours before the oil was changed and the temperature has been below 50 degrees here the whole time.
So, that could be the same thing that you are noticing. Next time you remove your filter. let it sit somewhere for a while and then see if there's oil in it.

I am starting to think that about 80% of those who post on this site have no idea what is fact- and what is commonly believed (lie's). Research, test, study, use, and then compare. Only then can a guy truely have an opinion. That is what I do.

the reason that I personaly dont like fram, is that I have seen them blow out the back. I have only experiance one oil filter ever blow out, and that was a fram. this completly ceised my friends 350, at the strip. I personaly cant say about there filtering abilitys, but don't trust there duriablity. I have used stp, k&n, and WIX personaly, and personaly like the wix the most, it seemed to catch the most,the oil seemed cleaner then normal at my 3k oil and filter change.
