I've got all the stuff ready for a brake swap, but one of the hubs has lug stud holes that are a little stripped. What do y'all think of just JB welding the studs in place? I figure once the wheel is on the stud/hub connection isn't going to slip at all (due to them being cinched tight by the lug nuts) so really the JB weld would only be holding the studs in when the wheel is off.

Any thoughts? I do track the car, but JB Weld is rated to a pretty high temperature (500F). I'm really just trying to figure out if this is unsafe for some reason I cannot think of.

My other option is finding someone with a welder and getting some spot welds put in, but I don't know anyone with one. I refuse to get a new hub since the internal are all still good.

 

Why not just throw some of the ARP wheel studs that people were using before they were making the honda ones. The knurls on the stud were bigger than the hondas and will bite into new metal when you install them.

PS...I realy dont think the JBWeld will hold at all.

what do you mean lug stud holes that are stripped? the studs dont get screwed in. can you send a picture so i can see what your talking about?

 

Im pretty sure he means that the wheel studs spin in the hubs when he tightens the lugs. The knurls on the studs hold them tight.

Yep. I can't even mount the hub on the car cause the studs would fall right out the back The only time I can think of needing the studs to be tight though is this situation, when the wheel is off (which JB Weld would seem to do a fine job of). Once the wheel and lug nuts are on and tight, the studs shouldn't budge.

 

Just get the ARP studs from my post they will work great!

dont be a noobie have the new studs tac welded to the back of the hub, jb weld would defintley be unsafe

 

i would definitely have it spot welded for safety
