Hopefully someone can give some insight as to what could be happening with the Type R. It's a '98 with 33K miles and never had the slightest problem with it so far.

At the last autox, after the 1st run something was wrong with the car. The motor does still engage in vtec, however the power seems to die off slightly after 7K and it "hits" some kind of a soft fuel cut-off just before 8K rpm. It's nothing like the fast acting normal fuel cut-off at 8.6K. Since then I've tried it and it's been doing this in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The revs just do not want to go over 8K. The temp gauge reads 185 F, while the oil pressure is at just over 75 psi anywhere in vtec after 6K rpm up to where it "cuts off". The check engine light is not on and it never did light up - so I am not able to get any codes from it.

With the help of the Honda shop I took the car to, we believe the problem to be narrowed down to possibly a bad ECU or a faulty TDC sensor. However, I would like to be certain before spending the money to replace one of these parts.
