Default Issue with Block Deck Surface (picture)

I'm posting this for a buddy, hoping that someone here has good insight and advice.

Its finally cool enough to get in the garage and start putting my engine together with out sweating to death toady so I start putting the pistons in making sure everything is done right. all the rings spaced correctly making sure i don't scratch the cylinders with the rods and all. Then I get to the third piston...

the damn ring compressor comes undone before all the rings are in. I try to get the piston out so I can try again but I cant get an angle to push it back out.

So... i try to be extra careful and put the compressor back on the piston with it still in the block. And I end up nicking the surface of the block...

I assume that i am pretty fudged and have to take it apart and take it to a machine shop to fix right? Or is there any chance they can resurface with the pistons in it? You can definitely feel it if you move finger across it. grrrr

as long as it isn't nicked or on the main mating surfaces of the block and head gasket, in this case you're fine.

Alright thanks for the advice guys!

That seems to be the general consensus over on his side as well. It would just stink to put everything together, find out it leaks, then have to tear it all apart again.
