how to hone a block?
i finally got my pistons/rings and my stepdad will be replacing them for me. my mechanic told me that i should "hone" the block first....
Anyone know how to go about doing that, and what will happen if i dont hone it?
basically, the block is in the car right now, were going to replace the pistons and rings. It is a stock, turboed h22a jdm...

yeah you want to hone it, get a honer, put it on a drill, spray the cylinders down with wd-40, have someone spray the honer as ur going up and down the cylinders till you get a nice criss cross pattern. just search yahoo for cylinder honing.
if you dont hone it your rings will never break in and she will smoke

No offense, but seeing as you didn't even know what honing is I'd say pull the block out and have a machine shop hone it for you. Its a lot safer than risking ******* it up honing it for the first time in your garage. Spend a little bit of money now instead of a lot more again later.
