internal engine diagnosis help
awhile back the old ladys 90 integra started to have a problem with overheating when sitting still for awhile, finally the motor gave lost compression between middle cylinders. i was under the impression headgasket split between cylinders. well tore the head off and from what i see not exactly what i was expecting the head and block appear to be fine visually the motoer looks old and tired though. i planned on just putting a new gasket in but now im not sure the cylinders look wet cuz i put a litlte oil in them during diagnosis stage to try and up the compression. the headgasket was still all intact no splits anywhere. any suggestions.

Ok, let me start with you most likely have some warpage with the head and the block. So putting a new head gasket on really isn't going to help you.
Since you have the head off i'd have it rebuilt and decked, $120 tops. plus gasket $60
The real problem begins with the block. I still really haven't found a great way to deck the block without the obvious and long process of taking the motor out and rebuilding it. Most people i know used the honda bond on the bottom (very little) to help fill in the the .001 to .002 gaps your going to have.
The next time i run across this i plan on using a piece of wood (2 by 4) that is very straight and flat and covering it in 220 sand paper and using some autobody techinque of mist-spraying then sanding to level everything out.
PS = The only time a 3-layer metal gasket with split is under high compression. I'm betting that the car was loosing water over time.

Depends how many miles you have on the car and how fond of it you are. Your only about $200 away from getting another $1000 for the car if your going to sell it. Just something to think about.
