indentifying B series transmissions..........
A friend of mine just recently bought a tranny for his swap from a not so local junk yard. The tranny is supposed to be from a later model GSR. IS there any way that I can identify the transmission? Any castings that would let me in on what year or model? Thanks, just a little worried that this guy might have sent him a ls tranny thinking he wouldnt know any better.
There should be a letter and number combo on a sticker with a barcode. I don't know of any place where it is actually casted into the tranny case.
The only way is to throw it on and drive it; the gsr revs up faster than an ls. How much are those trannies going for at the junkyard (gsr's)?
Just thinking....what if you ran the serial number on it at your local police department that should tell you the year and type of car. I think the serial number is the one next to the tranny code, I might be wrong, anyone know if thats the serial number?

I could very well be wrong, but isn't there an identification tag on the top front of the transmission, on the side of the block stamp on the engine? Like my brother's B16 swap: his tranny is an S1, and the code reads "S19083-whatever-"....
