Immobilizer removal
Hey i'm trying to remove the immo chip on my 05 civic that i put an a3 into its a 03 civic si ecm i believe its the biggest stand up chip does anyone know if removing this will work or if this is the right chip please help if you can thanks
. . . Hey I got an identical problem, here goes:
First of all: Hello HONDA-DUDES ! !
I just signed up here, so I pretty much know NOTHING
about whats going on here.
I hope we can have some fun CAR FUN . . . Let the fun begin ! ! !
. . . anyway this is why I am here:
I just bought an old 1997 Honda Civic automatic
in good condition for 500 bucks.
Its not stolen, and I can register it any time, I have checked.
I want to make this baby spin for my gf, is why . . .
If it spins, she may spin too and all for me
First of all I need to get it started, I never thought that would be an issue!
It seems this 1997 old Civic got an IMMO,
damn! Well wonderful, I love teasy stuff ! ! !
The dealer offered me a key for 200 bucks,
and I said NO thanks, I said WHAT ? ? ?
200 BUCKS FOR A KEY ? ? ? ?
I did not tell him that I am an electrical engineer,
and I kind of laughed big time at him,
did not show my laff however
I just laffed cuz I think I got myself a GOOD DEAL . . mmm but did I ? !
I am not a car expert, I work with analog-2-digital converters for satellites.
I wonder how the satelitte-name came about . . . mmm
. . . Well anyway now about one day later,
I realize that this old 1997 Honda baby "PROBABLY GOT" has an IMMO,
because I cannot start it with a standard-key,
and I cannot start it either doing the basic ignition trick,
pulling out the wires and ignit it.
IF it has an IMMO, I simply want to remove the IMMO,
and put in my own "anti-theft" !
As an electrical engineer I do NOT trust old electronics NEVER EVER.
I know how badly they can fail, and the less electronics U got in UR CAR, THE BETTER ! ! !
I know how badly electronics can fail, worse scenario:
U found the love of Ur life and ur car fails to start!
Not a good start, dude
I found this link on the internet, showing what the IMMO looks like,
but I am not sure I can trust this link since its
a company in Lithuania, Eastern Europe!
The link is: http://www.codecard.lt/files/Honda%2...20emulator.pdf
Just in case u dudes dont want to click on any link from Lithuania,
I will upload the IMMO-photo
here in an album named "IMMO-Gonna CRACK U"
So what do u Honda dudes say, is that how the IMMO look ?
And how the hell do I locate it ? Where the heck is the ECU-box ?
I do not think this OLD baby has an ECU-box ? cannot find it anywhere!
Thanks in advance!

there's no immobilizer in your car. There is an ecu in your car. Problem might lie within your radio because in 96-98 civics have the factory alarm built into the radio. Remove the factory radio and your problem will be solved.
Thanks for your answer . . . my civic is an european model 1997, so it should have an IMMO, right ? Only american models did not have an IMMO, am I right ?
Furthermore . . . it has a Sony radio&CD model "CDX-C5850R" , so the factory radio has already been removed ?
Thanks in advance!

It has an IMMO . . . the local Honda dealer said so after checking with this specific european model 1997 Honda automatic. Thank you for your quick responses!

Somebody in another thread answered this: You don't have an immobilizer. No '96 - '00 US/Canadian civics did, they don't take a special key. European models did however have an immobilizer. ECU is behind the passenger's side kick panel.

ok well there's a big chip in the ecu that you can remove and you'll be good. it will throw a code but other than that you'll be fine. The information doesn't get tossed around much because it's obviously beating the system but a lot of people who get obd2 type r swaps want to retain the ecu and that's the only way of doing it. i believe you'll have to desolder the chip. it's a really tall one.
Thanks!
I guess "reprogramming" the IMMO,
and get a new key would be the easiest way to fool smart people ? LOL
But also the safest way ? . . how safe are these old "IMMO-anti-theft" things ?
Will a "standard-car-thief" be able to crack this IMMO in a short amount of time ?
I am asking you because it seems you got ALOT of experience in this field.
It is a joy to read your replies.
Thank you in advance.

Some dude in another thread gave this reply:
"If its a Euro ECU you pretty screwed IIRC, they aren't like the USDM '00 - '01 Integra ECUs that you can simply remove the immobilizer and have the ECU work (albeit with a constant CEL) you could also solder a dummy unit into these ECUs to remove the CEL. The euro models however use a different immobilizer and I don't know of any way around it."
(He talks about Integra 00-01 but those are not identical to 1997 European Civic ECU, right ?
. . . does this new info makes you want to add any comments ?=
As always THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I have posted 2 photos in my gallery of the IMMO.
Is this how the BEAST LOL actually looks like ?

. . . again a dude in another thread wrote this:
"my point is the Integra ECUs (same as civic) you can do exactly what you just said, remove the immobilizer and the ECU will work, but have a constant CEL, Euro ECUs don't work that way, without the red learning key your ECU is paperweight"
. . . damn am I screwed now ? ? ?
I refuse to give up . . .

. . . new info from another thread:
"your pics don't work, again your ECU is a paperweight, You can however use a USDM ECU which is not immobilizer equipped, you may need to add in sensors that may or may not be missing from a European civic"

the euro ecu is most likely going to have different wiring than the usdm. I've seen 3 wire alternator plugs on a canadian obd2a harness one time so i'd be weary of putting in a usdm ecu without first making sure you won't be missing or adding sensors. other than that you should be good. For the time and effort, why don't you get a key? do you have a key already? if so, you can bypass it with a dei part. if you don't have a key, you can try grounding the main relay but i don't know if the ecu will let the injectors fire.
