Idling Rough and Stalling
two days ago, i was driving on the highway and about 10 minutes later, i couldn't get it to go faster than 70 mph. it happened again yesterday...
then today, every time i got to a red light, it was idling really rough. i went to get gas and afterwards, i started my car and it stalled out after 2 seconds. i started it again, and it stalled out again. i stopped for a while, and later, i was able to drive it home okay, but it's still idling roughly.
i did a search, but i didn't find anything that sounded like this. any ideas as to what's causing this? btw, i have a 90 crx with a gsr swap...

Replace your EGR and see what happens. </TD></TR></TABLE>
a sticking egr valve wouldn't stall an engine. possibly harder to start on colder days, however, with that said... have you checked all your vacuum lines to see that they're not disconnected? are all your grounds/ignition wires securely in place?
what are some other symptoms? i'd need to know a little more. does it stall after it's been running awhile?

Really.
If it is sticking open at idle, you better believe it will.

it runs for like 10 minutes unless you have to stop. then it'll stall...
could it possibly be due to a problem with the distributor?

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve??? Exactly how many cars do you know of have stalled out from one being stuck open? That's funny b/c i removed mine and never installed a restrictor plate. just have the vacuum on top, plugged up at the exhaust mani., and no CEL's.
i have never seen a car stall b/c of one of these. unless your vacuum is seriously weak, EGR is for maintaining a consistent temp in the combustion chamber. you might have a case on carb. vehicles, but i've yet to see it on FPI.

tough to say. do a search, but usually distributor problems occur when your car won't start (ie. the crank will rotate, but your cyl's won't fire)

I'm not sure were you got this info. from; However, it's wrong. A stuck open or slightly open EGR valve can cause engine stalls and rough idle problems. Also, a bucking problem during acceleration and lack of power.
A stuck EGR valve will not cause a hard start - maybe possible but really unlikely.
But anyways, GSR don't have EGR systems.

the EGR valve connects your exhaust manifold with the intake manifold. it takes the warm air/gases from the exhaust and puts them back into the engine via the intake mani by vacuum. this is done to lower combustion chamber temps and decrease displacement.
check this link to give you an idea of what to look for:

I finally fixed my problem!!!! Now it idles right and i can go over 60 and 70, been driving for 3 hours yesterday with no problem. What i did was i change the distributor and the rotor and put in new spark plugs. i don't think the problem was with the distributor though. i adjusted the "idling line" (not sure what it's called) to make it idle at 1000rpm.
