Default idle problems

I'm having idle problems when when I start my car and it's cold. If I start the car and don't give it any gas, the car just dies. In order to get it to start, I have to give it gas and then hold it at 1500+ rpms or the car dies. After it warms up, the car will idle fine at 1100 rpms though.

Any idea what might be wrong?

are you throwing a code? check all vaccuum lines and everything in a regular check up. check spark and the plug itself. hope that helps

No code and the car is completely stock. I'm guessing vaccum leak or iac valve too. Any way to test a iac valve?

unplug it. if nothing changes the sensor is bad.

if you had a vacuum leak the idle would be very high or up and down, looks like you have a bad sensor, but then again, no code...

Thanks guys, I'm going to try the iac valve test.

I was thinking maybe the fast thermo idle control too.

I think its more likely the fast idle thermo valve. The IACV is supposed to compensate for extra loads like A/C or heavy electrical usage. The thermo-valve is supposed to give you a fast idle on cold start.

Sure about that? With my IACV disconnected I cant even start the car... It dies as soon as it starts. I had a bad IACV on my car and had to get it replaced but while I had a screwed up one thats the problem I had. And I had to idle it myself untill it got warm. I believe its the IACV.

Well, that's what I thought... Maybe the IACV needs to be open some, too. The thermo-valve just opens when its cold, closes as it warms up. I guess both have to work together for cold starts.
