Default idle issues?!

I've got a B16 in an EG. Lately when I drove around at 25-5000 rpm and push in the clutch/take the car out of gear the car will idle real low and then die. I watch my A/F gauge and sometimes it will be rich and sometimes lean... occasionally it will be stoich. when this happens. I have changed the plugs, checked the fuel system, made sure that the ignition box didn't have anything to do with it, and checked for any vaccuum leaks. It's just one of those odd things, and it won't die when it's cold, only when the engine is warmed up to temp. Is the idle too low? do I need to adjust the throttle cable a touch to keep the butterfly more open? I've got a JDM header that flows openly to a JUN TI can so I know I'm not having back pressure issues, or am I? ANYONE????

NEVER try to adjust the idle speed by tightening the throttle cable!! This will cause all sorts of 'chase your tail' problems. The proper thing to do would be the following...
With the engine idling and at operating temp, unplug the idle air control valve. The idle should drop to a base idle speed, typically 600rpm. (I don't know the base spec for your engine) If it's lower, you adjust the air bypass screw on the throttle body to obtain the base idle speed.

Now plug the IACV back in. The idle should increase to the spec on the lable under the hood if you have one, or around 750-850rpm.

If everything else is working OK, (O2 sensor, TPS, TW, IAT, etc) your idle should now be controlled by the ECU.

You will have to pull the backup fuse for 10 seconds to clear the code on the ECU caused by unplugging the IACV.

BTW, you may want to clean the IACV and the air bypass screw and throttle body before you attempt this adjustment.

here's one thing I notied when looking at my IAC-- there are no vaccuum lines to it. I tried a couple of things with requards to that but nothing seems to have helped. My idle is set just above stock idle at this time according to your instructions. I'm begining to wonder if it may be with some wiring into the ECM. I really can't remember this issue until about a month ago when I moved my ECM from the kick panel to underneath the dash. I know that I didn't mess with any wiring, but you never know... I'm going to look into this farther and then I will post my findings. In the mean time if anyone has any ideas let em fly!!!

Well I played around with some of the wiring, but still no luck. I am starting to wonder if there is some underlying issues here? Maybe my tip in is too rich and causes my car to die. I've been having a ton of backfire issues when letting off the throttle lately as well.. Don't know what that is from as I have not changed a thing for fuel delivery. Could the issues be related?

Last night-just for ***** and grins-I decided to play with the idle control... set the idle to just under 1k when warm. So far she hasn't stalled on me, idles high for my liking but atleast I got rid of the problem. It was pulsing a bit when I had the idle set @ 1.1k so I lowered it a touch. If there are any further developments I will let you know.

Get some berryman b-12 chemtool and use it to clean up your iacv. The screen gets clogged on it after a while. Fixed my idle probs

looks like I spoke too soon... went out the other night and sure as **** she stalled on me again. This was after normal driving for about 5 blocks or so @ 3k rpm. I'll have to check into the IAC screen and see what the score is with that. Could the coolant be the issue?

""Could the coolant be the issue?""

If you are low on coolant or have an air pocket in the system, the air could cause a false reading from the TW sensor, or just plain mess with the IACV/FIV set-up.

hmmm... that could prove to be interesting.. how about this for an idea? I used dexcool anti freeze in the system in a pinch... then used water wetter during the summer.. then switched back to regular antifreeze in the winter-cause it gets chilly here-... and now am back to water wetter. One thing I noticed the other day when messing with my recovery tank-- there was some jelly like sludge in the bottom of the tank. I'm wondering if the dex cool-which I now know is ****- could be the culprit of this whole fiasco. Would I be better to flush the cooling system entirely and use just regular antifreeze in the system?

UPDATE
the exhaust cam was installed one tooth retarded. advanced the cam, retightened the belt and it runs perfect. Check your cam timing.
