Default idle from 1000 to 1500???

question....my car, the previous owner installed a new disturbertor and the car idles weird... it'll jump from 1000 to 1500rpm back and forth. when i'm driving, its ok, but when i put it in neutral, it starts to idle it that again. is it because they didnt install the disturbertor correctly? another thing is that yesterday i was shifthing around 4-5,000 instead of 2500 all day and then it stopped idling weird. the car idle normally again, just sitting at 900-1000. does any have this problem also? let me know. thanks!

check your vaccum lines to the intake mani, if thats punctured or something that could cause a high idle

also if theres a CEL, run teh numbers that could tell you why its idling high

thanks for the reply...

yesterday my friend looked at it...and he unplugged this wire behind the intake manifold, and it stopped idling weird...but then the check engine light is on because that wire is unplugged. he says its fine....said something that when stuff gets in it, it clogs it up so thats why it idles like that.... is this common for civics?

the wax pellet on the fast idle thermo valve sometimes becomes lazy and doesn't close all the way causing the idle air control motor to flucuate idle speed. After a good hard rip the car will tend to idle normally, but the problem will only rise again once cold.
