Default IAT/Ignition timing problem (possibly) help

I just finished my ls vtec setup fired up find and idles ok not great but ok. the problem is i can open the throttle very slowly and it revs up fine but if i open it fast as if i just laid my foot on the gas it just bogs down. i talked to a friend and said this could be a combination of my IAT not working (it melted in my old motor ) and my ignition timing could be off. anyone ever had this problem?
