I NEED A DISTRIBUTOR PICTURE!!! please read
I have a 95 b18c1 in my 92 civic. the motor wants to start, but jsut just stay running. Its sputters, and really want to keep running, but its like its getting too much gas. But I want to see a pic of someone who has this same set up. SO i can compare the distributor. I am wondering if the person I bought the motor from, jsut slapped a distributor from any other car on my motor. so that the timing is wrong. Please help.
it shouldn't matter which distributor. As long as it keys into the intake cam without problems.
If you're skeptical about the ignition timing, then use a timing gun to check it...adjust if necessary.

agreed, check your cam timing. My LS did the saem thing after the intake cam jumped 1 tooth advance by accident.

Aight it isn't that hard to do but you will need a few tools and some patience.
Step 1) Jack the front of your car up and put it on jack stands
Step 2) Remove the drivers side tire and the inner splash guard that covers up the crank pulley.
Step 3) Remove you valve cover, so tha you can read the timing marks on the cams -- Notice that each cam gear has an UP mark stamped on one of the spokes, also there are 2 notches per pendicular to the UP mark on the out side edge of the cam gear
Looks like this:
_UP
-- o --
Step 4) Get a few extentions, a ratchet and a 17mm socket. Place the socket on the crank bolt and rotate the engine COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until the TDC(top-dead center) notch(white) is in a direct line with the "tooth" on the platic guard on the side of the motor. -- This sounds complicated but just look down the front driver side of the engine right next to the crank pulley and you'll see what i'm talking about.....also don't confuse the TDC mark(1) with the timing marks(3). the TDC mark is solo, while the timing marks are in a group of 3.
Step 5) When the TDC mark is aligned properly(needs to be dead on) Look at your cam gears. both "UP" markings should be relatively facing up(on some motors on cam may look slightly angled). No matter what the notches should be straight in line with each other.
Like this:
_UP_____UP
-- o -- _ -- o --
If there not staright in line then the gear that is most angled has most likely "jumped time" and needs to be corrected. This requires taking off your timing belt, adj the cam and then re-setting your belt. You might want to consult a manual for that.

I am starting to think that the guy who sold me the motor gave me the wrong distributor. does any one have a pic, or someway to prove I have the right or wrong distributor???

Another question I have the same problem im getting the (TDC) code also. Will my **** f-up driving it while this code is on, also do you loose power when your top dead center is off.
Look for a P72 stamped on the distributor, that should mean early B18C1 distributor. I know most of the GSR parts are stamped with this number on every part.
i couldn't find anything. All i could find was a pr-3 on the back side of the cap, but the cap could of came off any car.
ok. I know now for sure that i have the wrong dist. Do you know the long bump on the dist cap? not the 4 holes, but the longer bump in the middle. well, on my dist, that bump is going perfectly stright up. But i need a dist where that is cocked towards the back a little. So i guess I am going to have to look for a new dist then. will my dist from my stock 92 civic VX work??
