How to replace tranny seal...??
Does anyone know how to replace the plastic seal on the tranny?
This is the seal that goes where the shift linkage hooks to the shift shaft, it has the boot that covers it.
It's on a 97 integra. My question is does the tranny have to be broken down or can it be replaced from outside?

If you're talking about the seal around the shift rod in the trans case, I *think* you could do it while it's in the car. I installed the seal in my 92 trans (which is almost the same internally as the 97) after the trans was assembled (but before it was in the car). If you can get at it from underneath, I think it would work.
The slinky looking boot pulls off then a flathead screwdriver and a hammer will pop it off. Trade licks on either side of it to work it out. Then put some oil around the new seal and pop it in with a deep socket and hammer. Replace boot and shift linkage.

by the way, when mine started leaking on my GSR tranny, I stuck a D-series seal in and it fit perfectly, no leaks. kind of odd, huh? just wanted to point that out bc it may be cheaper or you may have a s-eries tranny laying around. Good luck!
