Default how to remove driver's side axle from intermediate shaft

I did search this one but couldn't quite find an answer. I'm putting my car back together after a clutch replacement and I want to replace the driver's side axle because the outer boot is torn, but I couldn't separate the axle from the intermediate shaft and the helm's is pretty vague.

Any tricks of the trade to offer?

Thanks in advance.

A brass drift and a 5 pound sledge applied lovingly to the inner c.v. joint. There is a snap ring on the intermediate shaft that holds the inner c.v. joint in place.

If prying doesnt work, a 3lb hammer on the axle right before the intermediate shaft should do it.

just pull the whole thing out with the intermediate shaft! then seperate the two.
