How much does it cost to port a header?
I am going to be buying a JDM DC 4-1 header and I was wondering if I should get it ported before putting it on. Can you guys give me some ideas on how much I would spend, and what kinda gains in power would I get from porting it out. And if any of you are in the NYC/NJ area and can tell me a good shop to get it done, that would be helpful also. Thanks.
There is very little to "port" on the DC JDM 4-1. When people talk about porting JDM headers, they are usually referring to removing the inner welds, anti-reversion piece, or both, on the Honda JDM ITR 4-1 header. The DC JDM 4-1 has neither of these. One possibilty would be to place the manifold gasket on the header flange and mark where, if at all, the ports are smaller than the gasket openings (although I don't think this was the case when I looked at my DC) and then open the ports with a Dremel to match the gasket. You could also clean up any welds in the collector, but again, on my header this was unnecessary.
Alright, well thanks guys for saving my wallet. I heard of people porting there headers before, but I wasn't sure of the gains they would recieve from it. So I wanted to see if its worth while, guess not.
