how to install hood pins?
hi guys, i just ordered a set of sparco hood pins for my cf hood and i need your instructions on how to install it. what part of the hood do i drill and what kind of tools i should use and etc. thanks guys
You'll need:
17mm box-wrench
Chain link cutter to cut down the eye bolt - it's too tall and will hit the headlight assy
Die for whatever thread pitch and size the eye bolt is
table clamp to help you die the threads on teh bolt after you cut it
Drill and various drill bits
Rivet gun with I think 5/16" rivets
(6) small washers to allow you to get enough leverage on the rivet in the back
I don't like using the screws b/c it's too hard to use the screw backing plates and I had one strip out of the hood after so much use.
Make your first hole small and drill from the bottom-up.
I prefer to put the hood pins oriented so that you pull inward or towards the front of the car to unlock the pins. But, on Integra's, you can't put them unlatching fowards b/c of the slope on the hood. I ended up setting them to unlatch towards the back of the car....kinda sucks b/c they want to fall back into the eye bolt when you go to pop your hood.

one more peice of advice. when you get the bolts installed in the frame, before you drill out the hood. take a bit of grease and touch it to the top of the bolts. then clost the hood on the bolts, oviously the hood will not clost all the way, but now you will have acuratly marked the place to drill from the underside of the hood, and the grease will wasliy wipe off.
i would start with the smallest drill bit you can find and work your way up until you get to the size of the screw....i did this on my cf hood and it worked perfectly with no cracks
use grey RTV silicone to make the mark, it's better than white out, paint, grease, etc.
drill it slow and dont force anything, or you'll get the two parts garrentee.
