Default How high can I go?

95 GSR motor with CTR cams. How high can I rev safely? Kenji said 8600rpm. Is this true, or a bit too high. My valvetrain is stock besides the CTR cams.

rev as high as you can, and then if you hear a boom or something, let off of the gas.

yeah rev til rods fly, then you know for sure. no, man id rev it to like 8500, til u get some dual valvesprings and titanuim retainers. then id say like 9000. but keep in mind, power stops somewhere............

If you DO get the proper springs and retainers you can go to 9 or higher and from what I've seen the CTR valvetrain will continue making power up to that point.

this is kinda rude but anyone have a suggestion to what ecu i should get. i have the same setup with cam gears and skunk 2 valvetrain and soon to be 11.5:1 pistons. i was going back and forth between spoon, mugen, skunk 2 and the kenji. if not those what program of a chip to run cause i have a vafc to fine tune. thanks

Okay for the B18C with CTR cams... I would just keep your rev limit stock... You don't have the same valvesprings as an R motor but you're valvetrain will still be fine... If you are still running a GSR (P72) ECU that's what i would change... That CTR cam hates changing to the high lobe at ~4400... Every GSR/CTR setup that I have worked with seems to bog... Just slapping a P30 ECU on there seems to run a lot nicer... My friend swapped his P72 ECU in his GSR/EK w/ a CTR intake cam to an 98 JDM ITR P73-013 ECU and it seems to like that a lot better... It atleast will break loose now when VTEC x's over... You could go to 8400 maybe just as a normal ITR but you still won't have the same timing and fuel maps.... Even with that R cams you're still not going to be making power all the way up there... If you have some other mods and some method of tuning put your car on the dyno and watch where you get your peak power.... My guess is that it will fall somewhere between ~7800-8000.... For delslow94 with that setup you can tune it just fine with your stock ECU unless you just want the prog for the rev limiter... I've chipped with Spoon and Mugen progs before and I hate them... In the P28 I love the SK2 prog, it seems to run awesome on a B18C with a CTR intake cam and IAB's removed... I really don't like the Spoon1 prog, it reminds me too much of a stock GSR ECU.. the VTEC is just too low.. I've never gone back and tried the Spoon2 but i've heard some people say it's better... I chipped my friend's PR3 with a Spoon1 prog, he's got it in a CRX with a stock GSR block and 1st gen B16 head... To us it just feels like ****.. he only ran a 13.20@103... Those cams and drop in compression don't help either tho... With the VAFC you should be set but if you want the chip for your rev limit then i would definately recommend the SK2... Also I've worked with the PYR prog and that seems even worse than the SP1.. it just has shitty fuel and timing maps... Good Luck
