Default How effective is factory oil cooler??

Just curious how effective a factory oil cooler is like what comes on the gsr's. Is it comparable to an aftermarket cooler? How many degrees could it possibly drop oil temp? Is an oil cooler a good idea for an NA car(street driven)? Thanks

the tradeoff is reliability vs. cooling. when you add more parts to a system, those parts add one more link of the chain to fail.

that being said, the factory oil cooler was removed from the gs-r lineup very early (I believe starting '96). The TypeR's retained the unit though.

Many people who run aftermarket coolers (which can do a better job depending on flow rate, capacity, and radiator type) will cover half of them in the winter to let the oil warm up to the right temperature.

If you're looking at coolers, you should invest in a temp. gauge first and see what you are getting right now for temps.
