Default how do you read obd 1

i dont have a scanner and i was wandering if there is any other way of reading the codes from my house.. any help would be ice thanks..

depends on the kind of car...you usually have to jumper a connector and either look at the long and short blinks on the check engine light or a light on the ecu
Get a haynes manual..they always have sections on ecu codes

the car is a 94 honda civic dx and i dont know what i can do to her car to fix it it had rained really hard the other night and she had 2 inches of standing water in her floor board.. so im guessing she probably fried her ecu but not sure .. but thanks....
