How do you convert a P28 from sohc to dohc?
I hear tons of people using a chipped P28. What the heck is a p28? Civic EX, sohc vtec?? You can just put a new chip in, and it will work on my obd1 GSR ?? This has to be the cheapest way for tuning. Why buy a VTEC AFC when you can go this route?
So I can slap in some ITR cams, a skunk2 intake manifold, combined with my i/h/e, get a p28 chipped ECU for a type R, and run relatively well ??
Pardon my dumbness, but please shed some light on this subject for me!

Knock sensor will pick up anything that sounds like pinging and retard the timing. This includes forged piston rattle, rockting your oil pan, high revs... anything. Mugen and Hondata both believe that if your car is tuned correctly, it will not ping. Besides, the P72 GS-R knock sensor is really only there in case someone puts <91 octane gasoline into the tank.

indeed, socketing a P28 and running an eprom just doesn't make it a DOHC specs they are other parts involved
also yes knock sensor is disabled on the P28 , there is no additional knock sensor board to be found there.
stock KS in the ECU is fine for regular bolt on but once you move on to higher performance and build up a motor, a J&S Safeguard, makes much more sense, therefore can be used without a ECU which comes with stock KS to combat detonation

i was also wondering that..I got a p28 mugen chip with a b18c5 and if it doesnt look for a knock sensor isnt that bad or is it just really nothing to worry about?
The SafeGuard will remove timing from individual cylinders to remove detonation. So, aside from the fact that the SafeGuard will permit much more agressive tuning which makes more power, it'll also prevent parts damage from the agressive tune-ups.
eg hatch: if the motor doesn't ping or has any signs of detonation then there should be no problems...
