A stock P28 does not look for a knock sensor. You just need to get it chipped to your motor cause the maps are for a SOHC motor. OBD1, right?

Yes, and a p28 is designed for an automatic.
Get it chipped, you'll love it, I do. Runs a little rich though.

these OBD1 JDM & US ecu's do not look for a KS by default:
P05, P06, P07, P08, P28, P29, euro P30, P70, P74, P75, PR4, P91
(I might have left a couple out)
