Default How to do Ignition Key Cylinder Removal

Hey guys my 94 GSR was stolen and the theives cracked up the steering column. I am replacing the ignition key cylinder where they broke it.

How do I take out the old stock ignition key cylinder and put it in an unbroken new one. I got a new one from someone on here but it doesn't have a key, how do I remove it so I can put my old one in and replace it. I searched but couldn't find anything definitive.

TIA.

No it's not the easiest way, you can do it yourself it's pretty easy. I've had to do it 5 or 6 times now. For the first time removal take off the steering column plastic, steering wheel, srs reel if necessary, and combo switch. Then use a dremel to slot the heads of the two screws holding the key cylinder in place. Disconnect the ignition switch and other wire from the key cylinder and pull it out. If you want to take it apart there is a small button on the top that you push in while you have the key in it and pushed in (between the 0 and I position) cylinder slides right out. Any questions feel free to pm me.

How do you put it back in again?

My EJ Civic was recovered, and the mechanic put in a new ignition lock and didn't swap the cylinder from the old lock. Following your instructions, I was able to get the cylinder out, but not back in.

Make sure you have the key pushed in... took a little playing around for me to figure it out the first time I did it.
