Default Hooking Up Timing Light to CDI Setup

I'm changing over to the AEM CDI with the AEM Pensil coils on a Prelude. I need to sync the timing and I wanted to know if I need to make a jumper wire from the bottom of the coil to the plug, or am I overlooking something here? I have set the timing on Nissan SR20's using this method, but I wanted to see if there is another way. Thanks

Some inductive pick-ups will pick-up the spark if it is on top of the coil. Some will use the signal/wires to the coil too.

Or you could just cut an end off the old plugwires and use that to make your jumper.

We call this set-up COP (coil on plug)
