Hondata Question
I just had my car dynotuned utilizing a Hondata s100. Before tuning, the check engine light came on indicating an issue with the o2 sensor (Code 41 I believe). The tuner said he could turn off the o2 sensor with Hondata and the check engine light would go away and everything will be fine. Is this OK?
It gives the code, but the car is tuned so that a Code 1 will have no effect on performance. Basically he set the car to run in limp mode all the time, and then tuned the limp mode maps to mirror a fully tuned regular map.
Kendall is completely wrong and is a classic case of an Internet Mechanic. There is no such thing as a limp mode map.
It does sound as though your car has a wiring problem with the O2 sensor. Any good Hondata tuner will know that you can dissable the O@ heater error code within Romeditor. IF your car was left in open loop then it will not be using the O2 sensor to adjust the long and short term fuel trim and the engine will run directly from the maps with no compensation. There is a known bug that if you run the car in open loop that upon deceleration you may get a check engine light for the O2 sensor.
You should have your tuner make sure the car is placed in closed loop and that the o2 heater wire is either fixed or the code dissabled in the software.

What you state is correct, however his car has been set to run in open loop thus the O2 code will continue to stay on. Not his fault, not my fault, not your fault, his tuner's fault. What I stated my not be perfectly accurate, but was a "Lamen's terms" generalization (indicated by the word "basically" in bold) for the purpose of making an understandable point as opposed to confusing everyone with a bunch of technical details.

This was uncalled for. You have no concept of my experience with Hondata and Honda's in general and to make such a blunt statement, seemingly with the intention of discrediting anything I've ever said, would be ignorant on your part. Making a generalization isn't giving misinformation so long as those who read it take it within the correct context.

disable o2 heater wire and enable closed loop.
Unless your car cant run of 14.5- 14.9 A/f on light/ part throttle applications, keep closed loop enabled. it will save you trouble.
