My datalogger doesn't like being on the USB-to-serial converter cable because it'll drop the connection and bluescreen the computer within a couple of minutes, sometimes seconds.

I put it on the serial cable and it hasn't had any problems.

I don't know if the converter cable needs a driver or not. Make sure that Windows can recognize the cable as a device such that it shows up in the Device Manager with a name and driver.

Aside from that, make sure that the assigned COM port for the cable in Device Manager matches the COM port in RE4.

You need to use the Keyspan adapter with the Hondata. http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/usa19hs/

I bought 2 cheap adapters and they would not work with the system. It either wouldn't connect, or it would crash my laptop.

Bought the Keyspan one and it works flawlessly, every time.

i have the keyspan adaptor, and its still not reading anything. ill be honest i have no clue how this software works nor do i plan to tune it myself. i wanted to get some feedback from the datalogger when i took it to the track, being it would be under normal conditions and not in a dyno room. So if you guys could hold my hand like a little child and take babysteps it would much be appreciated.

im running compaq laptop, windows xp, keyspan serial to usb converter. i installed the serial converter software. i then checked the device manager for the com. i went into setting in re4 and clicked the s200 tab and set that to the com port as the keyspan. so thats where im at.

Go to Help in the top of the Romeditor4 screen and click on Contents. Read through that, it will be your best friend.

So i went to my hondata dealer, had him try to hook up to my hondata using my laptop with his hondata cable, and everything worked fine.
so there in tells me theirs something wrong with my keyspan, or re4 somehow doesnt like using anything but dealer cables. I tryed going into the keyspan diag, and everything tested fine, and the com port is on idle. its just not connected what so ever, and not popping up with a window to install the hondata usb drive.. so i dunno. any help from this point would be much appreciated.

If you did not purchase the USB dongle cable from Hondata for Romeditor 4 it will not work. This is part of the security.

Do u know where i can purchase the cable, cuz supposibly its a dealer only, which to me doesnt make sense, since datalogging is a feature of the unit, so in theory if they wanted u to just go to the dealer and have it dyno tuned only, their be no point of datalogger. :: but yeah if u know where i can get it, it be much appreciated.

You can contact any Hondata dealer to purcahse this. http://www.hondata.com/dealers.html

In the end you would be much better selign the s200 you have and getting an s300 as it is a million times easier to tune with and much less hassle to deal with all the components.

I used a seriel cable for one and a seriel to USB for my romulator with no issues... I would check the com ports and move on from there.

He's using Romeditor 4 and that will not allow him to datalog unless he purchases the software and get hte included USB dongle for Romeditor 4.

If his car has been tuned with Romeditor 3 then he can use Hondalogger software to datalog using the standard serial or a Keyspan USB to serial adapter.
