Default help! valve bolt snapped...

i was changing my valve cover gasket and after i put on the new gasket. i started putting the bolts back and i was going to tighten it with my really big torque wrench that i just bought at orielly, the manual says 86 lbs and i just keep turning it waiting for it to lock then all of a sudden it snapped. i removed the valve cover again and it seems like theres no way of removing the remainding screw from the one that snapped, at least thats what i think. any tips would be appreciated.
i then jsut decided to put the cover back and hand tighten the rest and jb welded the bolt to the cover? is this safe? is there an alternative to fixing it? thanks

"jb welded" is not a good idea. 94

86ft lbs sounds more like a spec for a crank pulley bolt, not a valve cover bolt. You indeed have limited mechanical knowledge. I suggest getting a friend with some type of mechanical knowledge to help you or take it to a shop before you damage your vehicle more.

woah, i think your decimal was missing, if its a 10mm it should have been 8 lbs.

I swear most bolts that do little tasks on the engine are common sense torque. No manual required.

It's 86 INCH-pounds, not ft-lbs. I'll never forget the first time I encountered in-lbs specs. It was actually for the camshaft bearing cap bolts. Stripped the hell out of one trying to tighten it to 86 ft-lbs. In a pinch you can divide by 12 to get the ft-lb equivalent but a smaller in-lbs torque wrench should really be used. Just buy a new bolt and be thankful you don't have the studs that DOHC motors have.

Wow. You should really read and re-read A haynes manual or some other manual if you don't know what your doing. Your lucky that bolt snapped and not something major. A long time ago I made the same in-lbs mistake and tightened it to foot lbs. Try finding someone with mechanical knowledge and try drilling it out very very carefully. Jb is a very bad idea.
