Headstud stuck in block (Diagram)
I ordered a Timsert kit for my B18C1 because it had a stripped headbolt thread.so i thought i'd repaired it but the insert came out (i think i messed up with the kit). i thought i didn't use enough loctite so i used some JB Weld so the insert would stay in there for sure. Well it didn't and to make it more complicated, i put in a metal sleeve in the hole and that is now JB Welded to the sides of the hole. (yes i'm a retard, but i need help getting this fixed)
so now i can't take out my headstud because the Timesert insert is still screwed onto the headstud and the metal sleeve is stuck and won't let me take it out.
Here's a diagram for clarification:

So what do you all suggest i do? one of my friends said to take it to a machine shop and they'd cut the headstud and drill out everything, then fill the hole with aluminum, retap it, and it'd be good as new.
what do you guys think? any guesses?

thats wierd. So, you are saying that the metal sleeve and the insert were JB welded but only one actually adhered? Thats just what you call bad luck. Sounds like something of mine. HAHA. Sorry. I say if it doesnt come "straight" out with some pounding, take it to the machine shop cause who knows how much more bad luck may happen. Good luck!!
thanks. yeah i took it to a machine shop and they cleared it out.
now the next problem is fixing the thread. there was a helicoil installed in it before, which messed up. and that's why i think the timesert didn't work.
i think i need to use some Timesert Big-serts, which are specifically for repairing the threads a second time or after use of a helicoil. only problem is i don't know any shops around my area that have those. i'll call around tomorrow. any ideas?

Timesert has special kits for helicoiled holes. I don't think they can do a headstud though...I don't think there's enough meat left in there to drill it out far enough for the larger timesert. Call them to check it out though.

Might as well just buy a new block then.

No one's going to be able to weld that hole, that far down in the block, with any kind of quality. It's just not done. If it was a surface weld, sure, but an inch and a half down, not a chance.

what im curious about is how did that stud rip your threads out?? what lubricant did you use...and no youre not a retard even the best expletive up like the rest of us...
well there was a helicoil in the hole before i put the timesert in. the helicoil was screwed up. i didn't know i need a big-sert kit to repair it and just bought the timesert kit used off ebay for pretty cheap.

Ahh...I see now.
Yeah, the threads are too F'd for anything but a big-sert or a new block. Like I said, TIGing that hole is somewhere between impossible and unimaginable.
Sorry man...them's the brakes.

yeah.. oh well i'm starting to get used to my chronic bad luck with this engine.
if i don't find a bigsert kit i'll try to call ARP and get a bigger headstud that i can just tap the block and use that one.
i don't feel like getting a new block. if the block is messed up i'll just part it out and build a d-series turbo, something i should've done in the first place.
