I had to swap the head on my beater - Gen2 Integra LS (B18A1).
Anyways Im putting the new head on and I dont have the dowel pins that you use to line up the head onto the block. Do I absolutely need them or can I get away without them? We were trying to lower the head with the head bolts already in the head so it would be roughly aligned as the head bolts sat in their holes. But there still was a good amount of play. And I dont wanna **** anything up.
Thanks

yeap you need them.
you dont want the head to move while torquing it down
pretty sure a machine shop wont charge you a lot to place the
dowel pins

ok a friend has a box full of about 50 dowels, all sizes. most fit the diamater but of course now the length is my concern. Any idea how long this dowel should be? obviously if its too long the head wont fit fully, so should i go a bit short just to be safe? Im also taking a big assumption that the dowel bore in the head is as deep as the bore in the head? (50/50) Thx
Edit: the dowels I think will work are the correct diamater and they are 25/32th of an inch long... 1/32 longer than 3/4" How does that sound?
