Default Head bolts

After 65k miles, can I reuse them? Should I check tolerences or should they be okay? The engine is running perfect, I'm just swapping a built head on. TIA

It should be okay to reuse, but only once. They stretch too much to use them three times.

Ok let me claify... When it comes to cars I live by the saying "Do it right or do it twice". Will you be ok with the stock, used headbolts.... possibly, but why risk it. Especially if you are putting a built head on. I think it's worth the peace of mind if nothing else. Just my $.02

I don't disagree with you, but I think I've spent WAY more money on the project then I planned using the above mentality, and when it comes to some things, I think you have to draw the "doing it properly" line somewhere.

I agree. ARe you running stock compression? I would use the stock headbolts assuming you are staying with stock compression. That is what the headbolts were designed to resist. Any more than stock... go with ARP.

Yup unfortunatley I'm going to be running stock compression for now. Down the line I will either get some B16A pistons to yeild 10.6:1 or I will fork the money for a b20 and build it up. As I get more into school, I'm thinking I should call it quits soon and I think I might just get some high compression pistons for my LS. Thanks!

They say not to reuse the stock head bolts. Its recommended to replace them everytime you take them out. I know some people that do reuse stock ones and have been fine, they just torque it down a little more. ARP head bolts on the other hand can be reused.

lets see. stock head bolts reused: free. ARP studs $150. u decide. even for new stock head bolts, $70.
i think i fibbed a bit, i think i just paid $50 for all 10 brand new stock head bolts from honda. i do however adhere to the use only twice rule.

actually you can get the arp studs at summit racing for $118. and since you plan on installing new pistons later on you will most likely have to pull the head again as well, meaning your reused stock bolts will have outlived their usefulness (according to the use twice theory). better to just buy the arp studs now & prevent any possible headaches or failures down the road.

Has anyone heard of somebody reusing stock head bolts and something went wrong? Like I said earlier, I know people that reused their stock bolts and have been fine with them. They obviously recommend not to reuse them for a reason. I was just curious if anyone knows someone that did reuse them and something went wrong. Pesonaly, I am currently rebuilding my motor and going to be using ARP studs, I ordered them from summit racing and it was like $122.00 including shipping.
