Default What the hell is that, i never saw this symption.

I don't know whats wrong with my civic.
There is a problem only with second gear.
If i shift at low rpms the second gear grinds.
If i take the rpms above 4.5k in first gear, the car goes into gear very smoothly.
It only grinds in second gear, and just minor in third gear.
If i double clutch after first gear, or wait a second after pulling out of first, it doesn't
grind.
If i downshift from 5th to second it doesn't grind.

What could be wrong. My clutch grabs perfectly.
I thought that the tranny might be low on fluid, so i went to honda dealorship, and
bought brand new name brand tranny fuild and filled it up with nice new tranny
fluid, and still same problem.

could it be clutch adjustment which could cause this ??
syncros are my worst fear.

The car doesn't pop our of gear, it just makes a grinding noise when going in.

could be bad synchros, bent shifter fork, or bad/old mounts. i'm not gonna say driver, i'll leave that decision for yourself. i guess prob not mounts as much if your grinding when its slow at low rpm. hope for shifter fork over synchro

I showed the car to good macanic today, and he said that its defenatly not your syncrhos. He said that the previous owner must have babied the car, and must havd shifted very slowly and now the car has gotten used to of it. He told to me to just wait two seconds than put it in gear.

I still don't believe him.

But, if i put the car from 5th to second without double cluthing, it goes into gear fine, or from 4th to second the car goes into gear into gear wihtout double clutch.

I had a car with bad syncros. I had to double clutch when downshifting too, or else i would hear that grind.

so, i'm lost

I care, because i want to know if its the tranny or not.
Because if it is tranny, it will only get worse. This is my daily driver.
So i care.
I don't feel like doing 100 miles out of the way, and getting stuck at 2 or 3 in the morning.
and having to have it towed, and have it fixed, and break my pocked.

So i F****kin care

NEWS FLASH.. it IS you ******* tranny.. so either get a new synchro.. change your tranny fluid to see if that helps.. or suck it up.. your tranny is NOT going to **** out because of a little grind going into second. ALL honda/acura trannies have this prob. Mine grinds going into every gear but 4th and 5th.. I'm not worried about it right now...

If your tranny grinds good for YOU.

I've driven un-countable amount of hondas/acuras.

Not to mention i haved owned 92 ls, 91 crx, 96 ex, 94 accord ex, 98 GSR, 94 cx hatch, and 99 si. I have never noticed this problem.

no offense. Maybe you should learn to drive stick shift the right way. Like are you letting go of the clutch too fast? Are you shifting before you even engage the clutch? I used to grind all the time. I also thought it was the tranny, but then my cousin told me that it's just the way I drive. I was shifting faster than that I was engaging the clutch. Since ever then I haven't been grinding

No its not user error

I always make sure the pedal is to the metal.
If i rev it up, or redline it, it shifts fine.

this could well be it or a bad syncro !!.. and thats why peeps have probs... they just dont know it !..
i have a 150K miles tranny that used 2 grind .. took it out.. after a will and a new car with a fucked up tranny !! grinding all gears most of the time, and 2 & 3 over 3000RPM and 2 gear was allmost impossible 2 get in gear !.. put my old tranny back with fresh castrol syntrix or somthing.. and have been driving it the past 4000miles only grind 2 gear 3 times, and 4 gear 2 times or so !!.. and my grinding in 2´end IS because of the 150K miles and bad shifting !!.. not saying you are doing it wrong !! but think that 95 % driving a honda OR anycar with that high RPM are shifting 2 fast !! clutch not where it should be.. ETC. no car can shift gear in 0,001 sek like that with out grinding...

aslong as you can get it in gear dont worry about it.. if its you daily driven car why are you double clutching it? i would think thats bad of the clutch...try to do some maintanace on the tranny or something....if you have to skip 2nd gear

you could fill it up to the right level too. the 'fill' hole is also the fluid level hole.

1- put the car on 4 jackstands to level it.
2 - Drain old fliud (I assume you already did this)
3 - open fill plug - 17mm i think
4 - filler up uintil fluid runs out
5 - let it drip for 5 min. plug it.
6 - put your shoulder into the drivers door and tip car off of the jackstands. If you can't use a big prybar or pipe to pry the car to the side uintil it falls.
7 - drive it.
